Kyrgyzstan Launching Andash Environmental Audit

PERTH (Mining Weekly) — The Kyrgyz government would launch an independent international environmental audit of ASX-listed Kentor Gold’s Andash gold/copper project. The ASX-listed miner said in a statement this week that the environmental audit was foreshadowed last month in a letter to the Parliamentary Committee, when the government noted that the project had met environmental requirements, and called on the Committee to remove the requirements to revoke permits and cancel the land use permits. The Kyrgyz Parliament adopted a resolution to suspend activities at Andash and revoke all permits, during June last year, after a member of Parliament alleged that Kentor did not intend to take any efforts to ensure environmental safety, and was planning to pour industrial waste into the drinking water of the population of Talas Oblast.
