World Bank Approves $275 Million USD Manila Wastewater Upgrade

MANILA (ABS-CBNnews.com) — The World Bank board of executive directors approved $275 million USD in financing for a project aimed at improving wastewater collection and treatment practices in some areas of Metro Manila. In a statement, Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima said the project will help the country’s efforts to clean up the bodies of water around Metro Manila, especially Manila Bay and Laguna de Bay. "Water quality improvements in rivers and other water channels in and around the metropolis including Laguna de Bay and Manila Bay will help to improve the environment, and eventually enhance recreational and tourism opportunities," he said.
