Ecuador Inaugurates Two New Glacier Monitoring Stations

Ecuador is planning to inaugurate two new meteorological monitoring stations as part of the Adaptation to the Impacts of Rapid Glacier Retreat in the Tropical Andes (PRAA) program. The project has a budget of $33 million USD, with $24.6 million USD coming from national government funds and $8.3 million USD in donor funds. PRAA, which has established a number of scientific stations in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia, is supported by the World Bank, the Global Environment Facility, the ministries of environment of Andean countries, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), as well as universities and government scientific entities such as Argentina’s National Council for Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET)...
