The Laos government on September 4 denied it had started building a second dam on the Mekong River, according to a Radio Free Asia report.

The denial was in response to international conservation pressure group International Rivers’ report last week that Laos had begun building the 260-380 megawatt Don Sahong Dam, despite ongoing controversy about the Xayaburi Dam.
