t-\ n accident at the wastewater treatment
plant of Dzukijos Vandenys water management company on January 25-26 caused
pollution in the country's largest river, the
Nemunas. The exact cause of the accident,
as well as a scope of pollution in the river,
will be evaluated by environment protection
institutions.
But it is already evident that some 2,000 cubic meters of untreated wastewater were discharged into the river.
The accident took place in the company's largest wastewater
pumping station, located in Alytus, in southern Lithuania.
The staff at the pumping station noticed at night that abnormally
high volumes of wastewater had accumulated in the station's reservoir of the pumping station...
