Volcanic ash from the eruption of Chile’s Puyehue volcano pose a risk to rivers in the region, which could be silted as the ash settles. This in turn could cause rivers to overflow and trigger floods. The weight of falling water and volcanic materials could cause mudslides and poses a risk to dams.
