Chavez Says U.S. Aims to Control Colombia's Water

Venezuela, MERIDIA

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez last week said the United States was increasing the number of troops at its bases in Colombia in order to control the region's natural resources, including the large freshwater reserve that lies within Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay.

He said the United States was also after the region's oil reserves.
