Workers in the French Caribbean islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique have held on-going strikes and protests, organized by unions of the energy and water sectors, over the low wages and high cost of living. The Collective Against Extreme Exploitation in Guadeloupe has organized thousands for demonstrations that have closed the port, supermarkets, schools, banks and government offices.
