Mitsui Awarded $1.26 Billion USD Contract for Shuaiba North

— Mitsui & Company of Japan is expected to win the contract to build the Shuaiba North power and desalination plant, according to the Kuwait Central Tenders Committee. The committee already approved the Mitsui consortium offer of 366 million dinars ($1.26 billion USD) for the project. The outcome of the bidding process is unexpected; in March 2007, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Electricity & Water, the client for the project, indicated that a consortium made up of South Korea's Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction and Germany's Siemens was the front runner.
