Namibia: Government to Bail Out Village Councils

— The government will spend over $1.4 million USD to clear the outstanding debts of village councils to state utilities such as NamPower and NamWater The Ministry of Regional and Local Government, Housing and Rural Development will spend another $1.8 million USD during this financial year for training, upgrading infrastructure, fleet service and repair of leaking pipes in the 18 village councils across the country. The infrastructure upgrade alone will cost over $400,000. Village councils and NamWater also will sign a maintenance contract to ensure monthly checks on infrastructure. Source: New Era (Namibia)
