Poor Water, Sewage in Upper Egypt Governorate

— Drinking water and sewage services are deteriorating in the Upper Egyptian governorate of Fayyoum, about 100 kilometers south of Cairo. Sewage treatment projects in the villages of Senouros, Itsa, Shakshouk, Gharq and Matartas that were started 20 years ago have not been finished yet. Twenty-eight percent of residents have sewage treatment services, according to official reports. Sixteen projects currently under construction should bring coverage to 53 percent.
