— The government and the
United Nations Human Settlements
Program (UN-HABITAT) will jointly
fund a $1.7 million USD water and
sanitation project in Kigali.
The project falls under UN-HABITAT's
"Water for African Cities" program
to improve access to clean water
and sanitation for low-income
urban dwellers - in this case,
residents in the Kimironko and
Masaka communal settlements in
Gasabo and Kicukiro districts.
"We chose these two settlements
because they are built according to a
modern city plan. It is therefore easy
to distribute water and construct permanent drainage sewage systems,"
said Bikoro Munyanganizi, minister
in charge of water and mines...
