— South Africa's Water Affairs and
Forestry Ministry is still investigating
the effects of three jet fuel spillages at the OR Tambo International
Airport, which caused significant
pollution of surface and ground water.
Minister Lindiwe Hendriks told
members of South Africa's
Parliament that the investigation
into a September 2005 spill at
Acsa was still in progress.
She said that fuel spilled into a
wetland stream that feeds into the
Blaauwpan Dam. Hendricks said her
ministry had taken water samples
at all potentially affected sites.
The ministry is still waiting for the
results of some of the analyses
of samples taken after two other
fuel spills last year, she said...
