United States President-elect Joe Biden has announced that the US will host a climate summit of the world’s major economies before the end of March 2021. Biden has already committed the US re-joining the Paris Climate Agreement on the day of his inauguration in January.
The announcement follows a virtual "Climate Ambition Summit" co-hosted by the UN, the United Kingdom, Britain, France, Italy, and Chile on 12-13 Decmber which was organised to mark the fifth anniversary of the Paris accord and was held in lieu of the originally-scheduled COP26 in Glasgow, Scotland, which will now happen in November 2021.

Financial futures contracts tied to the spot price of water related to the $1.1 Billion USD California spot water market traded on Wall Street for the first time, opening a market for farmers and investors to hedge against water scarcity.
The contracts, tied to the Nasdaq Veles California Water Index that was launched two years ago, are financial instruments as there is no associated physical delivery mechanism. The index is driven by the volume-weighted average of transaction prices in California's five most active and largest water trading markets.

The World Health Organisaton (WHO) and the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) say in a new report that a lack of water and sanitation services at health care facilities has placed additional risk of infection and COVID-19 on approximately 1.8 billion health workers and patients.
“Water supply, sanitation and hygiene in healthcare facilities are fundamental to stopping COVID-19. But there are still major gaps to overcome, particularly in least developed countries,” said Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General.
