Uganda's Water Sector Requires Five Percent Of Country's Budget
Uganda's water sector needs between 4 and 5 percent of the funding made available in the General State Budget (OGE), according to the Secretary of State for Water, Lucrécio Costa. According to Mr. Costa, the sector currently receives only 2.1 percent of the budget allocated. He noted that countries like Angola lack a budget situation equal to or greater than 4 percent of the budget for water and sanitation, hence the budget falls short of demand.

AfWA Calls For Investment In Climate Resilient Water Systems
The largest water and sanitation sector gathering in Africa ended Thursday in Uganda with a call for governments to invest in climate-resilient water systems and irrigation to reduce vulnerability to climate change. African Water Association (AfWA) Program Director Dr. Simeon Kenfack said as governments implement ambitious national climate action plans and strategies, they must show the world that Africa is able to work as a family to address risks of climate impacts using existing knowledge and solutions.

A Chinese firm has applied to Ugandan authorities for a licence to develop a $1.4 billion hydropower plant that could potentially expand the country’s generation capacity by 40% according to a regulatory official and papers seen by Reuters. Uganda Accelerates Nyagak Dam Project
