BEIJING, China

– The final death toll from last month’s fatal landslide near China’s Three Gorges Dam reached 35 last week, as China continued its efforts to rehabilitate the project’s image through its state-run media.

Within days, a second landslide occurred, this time downstream, amid new reassurances that the dam was helping alleviate the worst drought conditions in 50 years.
