— The Kollam district administration has decided to allow the Volkam Clay Company to continue mining operations at Velichakala, despite residents' complaints that the china clay mining is causing water scarcity and pollution.

The company has been mining to a depth of about 30 meters, which residents say is draining water from their wells.
