Philippines: Villagers Sue to Shut Off Supply to Mine

MANILA, Philippines

— Residents in the village ofDidipio, 270 kilometers north of Manila, are taking the Philippines National Water Resources Board to court to get it to stop water permits for the OceanGold project, an Australian gold and copper mine The villagers' are taking legal action because they say the mine's water use will contaminate their water supply, according to aid organization Oxfam Australia.
