week to backtrack on the widely
publicized negative potential impact
its largest civil engineering project
could have on the environment.
But just days after the environmental
chief of the Three Gorges Dam
tried to play down the reports, one
of a number of recent landslides
claimed the lives of one worker in
the central province of Hebei, beside
a half-completed railway line near
the 660-kilometer dam reservoir.
Three other workers were trapped.
Three days later, a bus was
uncovered under the debris
- buried as it was carrying migrant
workers home from Shanghai...
