Study Says Reservoir Could Have Caused Chinese Earthquake

A U.S. study, published in "Geophysical Research Letters" suggests that the devastating 7.9 magnitude Wenchuan earthquake could have been hastened by tens to hundreds of years by the creation of the Zipingpu Reservoir.

The quake resulted from thrust of the Tibet Plateau on the Longmen Shan fault zone, part of the Indo-Asian continental collision.
