Russia Offers to Help Finland With Sewage Spill

MOSCOW, Russia

Representatives of several regional governments in Northwestern Russia are offering advice and practical assistance to Finland after a catastrophic release of sewage there led to pollution and the mass deaths of fish in a major river.Thousands of cubic meters of untreated waste water leaked into the Muonionjoki River, which flows through the west of Finland and forms part of the country's border with Sweden. The river does not cross or flow anywhere near Finland’s border with Russia.Russian authorities point to recent spills they have experienced during which Finland was keen to send advisers and monitor the pollution...
