SADC Nations Could Miss 2015 MDG Deadline Due to Inadequate Funding

Fourteen member countries of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) may not meet the UN Millennium Development Goal (MDG) targets on water and sanitation by the 2015 deadline due to inadequate state funding. SADC Program Officer Phera Ramoeli told the third SADC Regional Water Supply And Sanitation Program forum in Arusha on August 27 that despite efforts by some countries in the region to step up water sector funding, the allocations were inadequate to meet the need for clean drinking water for their growing populations."The water sector in the region receives meager financial resources, compared to a number of people who are struggling to get clean and safe water," said Ramoeli...
