Abandoned and leaking oil wells may cause an environmental disaster in the Caspian Sea, Tengrinews.kz quoted Baktykozha Izmukhambetov, governor of Kazakhstan’s oil-producing Atyrau Region, as saying last week. “I would like to address the issue of drowned wells in the Caspian Sea,” Izmukhambetov told Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev at a Kazakh Government meeting last Friday.
