The Kenyan and Ethiopian water ministries are moving toward an agreement concerning construction of Ethiopia’s controversial Gilgel Gibe III Dam project, according to regional director for the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) in Nairobi Desta Mebratu. UNEP is leading mediation efforts between the two sides.Kenya has raised concerns over the dam, which is to be located on the Omo River, a major water source for Kenya’s Lake Turkana.
