Unregulated liquid waste disposal has worsened pollution in the Nairobi River as well as smaller water bodies near the Kenyan capital, exposing millions of people to communicable diseases, the government’s environmental watchdog warned last week.According to the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA), industries are discharging effluents into water sources in Nairobi, and little is being done about the problem.NEMA Director General Geoffrey Wakhungu said malfunctioning sewer lines also contribute to the high pollution levels in protected freshwater sources including rivers, ponds and wetlands...
