Athi Water Services Board Denies That Tunnel Project Will Affect Local Rivers

Kenya’s Athi Water Services Board (AWSB) this week dismissed concerns that the controversial $74 million USD Northern Water Collector Tunnel project would reduce water levels in rivers in Murang'a County.During a visit to Murang’a Governor Mwangi Wairia’s office last week, AWSB Chairman Mwangi Kiunjuri said studies had shown that the water levels in the Gikigie, Irati and Maragua rivers would not be affected by the project.He urged local leaders to support it, in order to promote development.Kiunjuri also said the board would invest $25.5 million USD for water projects in the county.The Northern Collector Tunnel project involves construction of a 11...
