Andrew Mackenzie, CEO of Australian mining giant BHP Billiton, and the head of the company’s iron or business, Jimmy Wilson, travelled to Brazil today (November 9th) to assess damage after two tailings dams at a mine it co-owns in Brazil’s Minas Gerais state burst last week, killing four people and flooding the village of Bento Rodrigues and nearby areas with sludge, wastewater and debris.Twenty-eight people are still missing in the wake of what Minas Gerais Governor Fernando Pimentel has called the state’s worst-ever environmental disaster. Authorities have said it is becoming less and less likely that the missing will be found alive...
