Death Toll Expected to Climb After Brazil’s Tailings Dam Bursts; Mining Execs to Assess Damage

MARIANA, Brazil

Andrew Mackenzie, CEO of Australian mining giant BHP Billiton, and the head of the company’s iron or business, Jimmy Wilson, travelled to Brazil today (November 9th) to assess damage after two tailings dams at a mine it co-owns in Brazil’s Minas Gerais state burst last week, killing four people and flooding the village of Bento Rodrigues and nearby areas with sludge, wastewater and debris.
