Vale, BHP Billiton Say They Are Willing to Cover Cost of Doce River Clean-Up

BRASILIA, Brazil

Vale SA and BHP Billiton, co-owners of the Samarco iron ore mine in Brazil’s Minas Gerais state, have told the Brazilian government they are willing to cover the cost of cleaning up the Doce River, which was contaminated by the collapse of one of Samarco's tailings dams two months ago, Environment Minister Izabella Texeira announced this week.
