Studies on Grand Renaissance Dam Will Not Initially Be Binding: Ethiopian Water Minister

The initial results of studies assessing the downstream impacts of Ethiopia’s Grand Renaissance Dam are not binding for Addis Ababa, Ethiopian Water Minister Motuma Mekasa said this week.He told Turkey’s Anadolu Agency on Februay 17th that French consultancies BRL Group and Artelia will present studies on the possible effects, but then experts will discuss ways to address them.“The two French companies will hand over results of the studies to the intergovernmental technical committee, which will, in turn, forward them to the foreign ministers of the three countries who shall discuss them to achieve an agreement on means to address the effects, if any, that could impact upstream countries Egypt and Sudan,” he was quoted as saying...
