Philippine Rights Group Seeks UN Investigation Into Kidapawan Farmers’ Protest

Philippine human rights group Karapatan: Alliance for Advancement for People’s Rights, has asked the United Nations Human Rights Council to investigate the government’s actions in violently dispersing farmers who demonstrated in the southern city of Kidapawan early this month to demand drought relief funds."It is important that the international community is made aware of these gross human rights violations against the farmers," said Karapatan Secretary Cristina Palabay.She said state security forces’ actions on April 2nd against the 6,000 protesters -- which left three people dead -- constituted a violation of human rights...
