Samarco Owners Criticized Over “Independent” Investigation Into Brazilian Tailings Dam Disaster

The US law firm hired by miners BHP Billiton and Vale SA to conduct an independent investigation into the tailings dam collapse at the Samarco iron ore mine in Brazil’s Minas Gerais state has close commercial ties to both companies, and so “cannot be considered independent,” according to a new investigative report.
