Six Iranian Cities Face Acute Water Shortages

Six major cities in Iran are facing acute water shortages, and water resources are under strain in another 450, Deputy Minister of Energy Sattar Mahmoudi warned last week.In an interview with the Mehr news agency on April 1st, Mahmoudi said Bandar Abbas, Shiraz, Kerman, Mashhad and Hamadan were all in the “red zone” for water scarcity.“... Endeavors and urgent actions are ongoing so that the people in these cities will not face major problems,” he added.Some parts of Iran have been facing drought conditions for the past 15 years. The country had been forced to over-exploit its groundwater resources, leaving some experts worried that in a few years, it will be mostly desert...
