A Brazilian judge on May 5th ratified the $6.2 billion USD settlement agreement between mining company Samarco and its co-owners, BHP Billiton and Vale SA, for damages caused by the tailings dam collapse at Samarco’s iron ore mine in Minas Gerais state last November.
