Malaysia to Intensify Cloud-Seeding Efforts: Minister

The Malaysian government will intensify cloud-seeding activities over water catchments and dams throughout the country in an effort to ease the effects of the ongoing El Niño-induced heat wave and drought. Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Seri Madius Tangau said this week that cloud-seeding had to be carried out on a daily basis to take advantage of the presence of cumulus clouds over the country. “It is critical for us to increase the volume of water in the dams and catchments in a short time,” news agency Bernama quoted him as saying.Last week, Natural Resources and Environment Minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar warned that water levels in seven major dams located throughout Peninsular Malaysia had dropped to less than 50 percent of capacity...
