Syrian Government Halts Aid Convoy to Besieged Darayya

BEIRUT, Lebanon

Syrian government forces this week have blocked what would have been the first aid convoy in three years from reaching civilians in the rebel-held Damascus suburb of Darayya."Sadly our aid convoy with UN and Syria Red Crescent was refused entry to Darayya, despite being given prior clearance from all sides," the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said on Twitter."We urge the responsible authorities to grant us access to Darayya, so we can return with desperately-needed food and medicines," the ICRC said.In addition to the five-truck convoy, organized by the ICRC, the United Nations and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent to deliver baby milk and medical and school supplies, “the ICRC and its partners need concerned authorities to let it provide other essentials such as food, and allow it to help restore basic services like water and electricity," it added...
