Two Kumtor VPs Leave Kyrgyzstan Following Raid

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan

Two executives of the Kumtor Gold Company left Kyrgyzstan last week, a day after a raid was carried out on the company's offices in Bishkek as part of a criminal investigation, the Kyrgyz Prosecutor General's Office reported last week.Sources in the Prosecutor-General's Office told Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty this week that Vice President of Finance Mark Burton and Vice President of Procurement and Logistics Leslie Louw  would be recalled for questioning over alleged illegal transfers of company assets to foreign banks.However, in a statement this week, Kumtor Gold said the two had left “to take their long-planned vacations,” and their departures were in no way connected to the criminal investigation...
