Vietnamese Province to Build Monitoring Station for Steel Plant's Wastewater Discharges

HANOI, Vietnam

The government of Vietnam’s Ha Tinh Province plans to quickly build a monitoring station to check wastewater discharges from the Taiwanese-owned Hung Nghiep Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Company plant, which has been implicated in the massive fish deaths off the country’s coast last month.Dang Quoc Khanh, chairman of Ha Tinh People’s Committee, said the provincial government would finance the project, which is expected to be completed in one month, and its Department of Natural Resources and Environment would oversee it.The station will automatically collect and analyze samples from the steel company’s sewage pipe...
