Drought, Conflicts Leave More Countries in Need of Food Aid: FAO

El Niño-induced droughts and conflict have raised the number of countries in need of external food assistance to 37 as of June 1st, according to the latest edition of the Crop Prospects and Food Situation report, put out this week by the Rome-based United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).When the last report was released in March, 34 countries were in need of external food aid. Papua New Guinea, Haiti and Nigeria have now been added to the list.In Haiti, drought has significantly reduced crops, while in Papua New Guinea, drought followed by heavy rains and flooding have affected cereal output...
