China Reluctant to Include Diamer Bhasha Dam in CPEC: Official

The Chinese government has been reluctant to include Pakistan’s $14 billion USD Diamer Bhasha Dam project in the massive China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) program, a Pakistani official said this week.Pakistani daily The News quoted a senior official at the Ministry of Water and Power as saying Chinese authorities, who were presented with a plan to include Diamer Bhasha in CPEC eight months ago, were concerned about the lengthy delay in return on investment for the hydropower project.CPEC project director Major General Dr. Zahir Shah said the issue was still under discussion within the joint working group, but the senior ministry official said that in the meantime, plans are being formulated to fund the dam construction through the national budget...
