SADC Models Equitable Trans-Boundary Water Resource Management: Official

The Southern African Development Community’s (SADC) well-managed water systems agreements could provide a model of trans-bondary water resource sharing for other parts of Africa, SADC Senior Program Officer for Trans-boundary Water Phera Ramoeli told reporters last week.There are 15 identified river basins that run through two or more countries in the southern African region, Ramoeli noted. Some of the basins are managed by authorities established by riparian countries.But in addition, “the SADC secretariat, with the full participation of all member states, has put together a Regional Strategic Action Plan on Integrated Water Resources Management and Development, which contains several implementation programs to help member states achieve their SDGs with a specific focus on water and sanitation,” he said...
