UNESCO’s World Heritage Center has requested that the Malawi government suspend oil exploration in Lake Malawi, also known as Lake Nyasa. The decision to act was reached at the World Heritage Convention’s 40th Session meeting in Istanbul in July. The Lake Malawi National Park was designated a World Heritage Site in 1984.
