Businesses in Windhoek Warned Over Severe Water Shortages

An Windhoek official is warning businesses operating in the Namibian capital that water shortages in the city were more severe than initially reported.Pierre van Rensburg, head of the Department of Infrastructure, Water and Technical Services, told a forum in Windhoek last week that water demand has outstripped supply, and the water crisis could therefore persist even if drought conditions ease.“The only way we’re going to get through this crisis is if we work together as businesses and private citizens, government and private institutions,” van Rensburg said.He said that as of September 12th, the city achieved 30 percent water savings -- 10 percent short of its target...
