Barrick Gold Resumes Normal Operations at Veladero Mine

After receiving approval from local authorities, Barrick Gold Corp has resumed normal operations at its Veladero mine in Argentina’s San Juan province, the company said on October 3rd.The announcement came just a few days after an Argentinian judge upheld the suspension of operations at the mine.In his decision on September 30th, Judge Pablo Oritja had cited a report from provincial mining police, which found that Barrick had not carried out sufficient repairs after a processing solution leak earlier in September.The government of San Juan province had temporarily suspended operations at the mine after a pipe carrying process solution -- which includes cyanide -- was damaged by a large block of ice that rolled down from the heap leach valley slope on September 8th...
