United Nations Launches Haiti Emergency Appeal

Secretary General Ban Ki-moon announced on 10th October a $120 million USD appeal to fund United Nations aid activities in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew in Haiti.Ban’s appeal follows United Nations International Childrens Fund (UNICEF) alerts last week about the threat of waterborne diseases to children as the country’s rainy season hits simultaneously with the extreme weather event.“Hundreds have died. At least 1.4 million people need assistance at this time. Some towns and villages have been almost wiped off the map. Crops and food reserves have been destroyed.
