Namibia in Talks With KfW to Finance Desalination Plant Study

The Namibian government is holding talks with German development bank KfW on financing the feasibility study for construction of a desalination plant in the Erongo region.The study is expected to be completed at the end of 2018, the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forestry told The Namibian newspaper.Water demand in the country’s coastal region is about 18 million cubic meters per day; current daily supply is some 16 million cubic meters.“With climate change and the looming drought, the supply from the aquifers cannot be guaranteed, thus the desalination plant will always be needed to close the water supply gap,” the ministry said...
