Vietnamese Steel Mill’s Wastewater Discharges Now Meet Standards: Environment Ministry

Wastewater discharges from the Hung Nghiep Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Company now meet environmental standards, the Vietnamese environment ministry said last week.The ministry built two automatic monitoring stations near facility, which have been taking samples at each station three times a day. Those samples indicate that the wastewater being discharged into the sea from the plant has met government standards since July 27th.Last month, the environment ministry and Ha Tinh provincial authorities said the steel mill had fixed 45 of the 53 problems at the facility, but concerns remain about its coke-quenching technology and the undersea wastewater discharge system...
