BASRA, Iraq

Iraq’s new Prime Minister Adel Abdel-Mahdi promised improvements in water and electricity services during a first visit to Basra January 19. The country’s southern province has seen sustained and deadly civil unrest since a water crisis last summer hospitalized 100,000 people and resulted in several deaths.
