Russian Energy Giant To Invest In Pakistan Dams

KARACHI, Pakistan

Giant state-run Russian energy company Inter RAO Group has offered to invest $2 Billion USD in Pakistan water and power sector projects, including the Mohmand dam on the Swat River.Inter RAO Engineering is one of the largest Russian public energy companies that has joint ventures with European companies like Siemens in Russia.Pakistan newpaper The Tribune reported this week that the Russian firm is seeking a deal on a government to government basis between Russia and Pakistan. Inter RAO is also active in dam construction in Afghanistan.Earlier this month the Leader of the Opposition in Pakistan's National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif Monday urged the government to reconsider the award of a contract related to construction of the Mohmand Dam amid conflict-of-interest allegations...
