Independent analyses by NASA and the US National Oceanographic and Atomospheric Administration (NOAA) has confirmed that 2018 was the fourth warmest year since 1880.

According to scientists at NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS), global temperature were 1.5 degrees Fahrenheit warmer than the 1951-1980 mean; the past five years have been the warmest in modern records. The warming has been driven in large part by increased emissions into the atmosphere of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases caused by human activities, according to GISS Director Gavin Schmidt.
