Dr Susanne Schmeier, Senior Lecturer in Water Law and Diplomacy at the IHE Delft Institute for Water Education, the world's largest international graduate water education facility, speaks with David Duncan, Publisher, OOSKAnews in this (LINK) OOSKAnewscast audio interview.
Schmeier leads for IHE Delft in the international "Water, Peace and Security Partnership" which is pioneering development of innovative information tools and practical approaches that can support evidence-based actions to reduce water-related security risks. The initiative is a collaboration among an expanding group of organizations supported by The Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Current partners include: IHE Delft (lead), World Resources Institute, Deltares, the Hague Centre for Strategic Studies, Wetlands International, and International Alert. Oregon State University and Pacific Institute are advisors to the consortium.
Susanne Schmeier joined IHE Delft as a Senior Lecturer in Water Law and Diplomacy in 2018. Her research and advisory activities focus on the legal and institutional dimensions of water resources management at both the national and the transboundary level, the role of agreements and river basin organizations in promoting and maintaining sustainable water resources management, the linkages between water insecurity and conflict and related entry points for water-based cooperation processes, as well as the sustainable management of ecosystems linked to water resources.
